Day 2 – El Capitan Passage / Devilfish Bay
The 27-mile long waterway El Capitan Passage offers many ways to get closer to nature. Hike in the tall Tongass forests, kayak in the incredibly scenic landscape, and explore El Capitan—the largest known cave in North America. Learn about life in the remote wilderness at Marble Island from a local fishing family.

Take a guided, four-mile roundtrip kayak trip along scenic El Capitan Passage. Or, take one of the available kayaks and explore the area on your own.
Logging Trail hike
Make your way up an old logging trail through the Tongass Forest. In addition to breathtaking vistas, watch for eagles and Sitka blacktail deer.

Explore the largest known cave system in North America: El Capitan Cave. The discovery of ice-age bear, seal, fox, and caribou bones date to 400,000 years ago.
Day 3 – Klawock
A “forest” of 21 colorful totem poles stands sentry in the village of Klawock. Learn about the cultural importance of carving in the carver’s workshop, where the art of creating and restoring totems is passed on to local high school students. Explore Klawok on foot or by Kayak, watching for bears, eagles, sea birds and whales.

Day 4 – Little Port Walter / Mist Cove
Anchor near Little Port Walter where exciting exploratory options include kayaking to Big Port Walter, hiking on the Sashin Lake Trail, or visiting an active NOAA field fisheries site. A hike in Mist Cove leads to a truly awesome waterfall. Snorkeling, rope-swinging, and kayak and swim races are part of your family vacation fun.

Day 5 – Patterson Bay and Deep Cove

Day 6 – The Brothers / Frederick Sound
The two Brothers Islands are home to some of Alaska’s most abundant wildlife, including a large gathering of noisy Steller sea lions. Sail into Frederick Sound—the summer feeding ground for the largest concentration of humpback whales in the Northern Hemisphere—and thrill to the sight of breaching, rolling, slapping, and diving humpbacks and orcas.

Scan the waters for telltale movement and thrill as humpbacks, orcas and Steller sea lions feed, breach, splash, roll and dive.

Choose either a guided kayaking or skiff trip to the southern end of The Brothers where hundreds of sea lions bark commands and frolic in the clear waters.
Day 7 – Endicott Arm and Ford’s Terror Wilderness Area
Breathtaking views of sculpted glaciers and soaring, snow-covered mountains are the hallmark of Endicott Arm. Kayaks and skiffs showcase impressive Dawes Glacier and offer close-up views of seals lounging on the small chunks of ice—known as “bergy bits.” Cruise up narrow Ford’s Terror, a pristine wilderness that’s home to an abundance of birds, bears and other wildlife.
